Computer problems again

Today is my fourteenth day here at Sumner Lake NM. I was supposed to leave for the next site today but have to delay it until tomorrow in order to wait for a UPS delivery.

My computer has been acting up a bit since I got here. A limited diagnostic check didn’t turn up anything. While I was in California, the computer took in a lot of dust (because of the draught can wind cnditions). So I thought maybe some dirt had gotten into one of the RAM slots. I opened up the case and used compressed air to clean the slots. Then I noticed that the CPU cooling fan was a little crooked. Two of the four plastic support arms had broken off.

I ordered a new fan assembly and some Artic5 thermal compound, about $30 for both. This was on Saturday and the soonest I could get it was today. Once it came in, it only took about ten minutes to give the case insides a good cleaning and replace the old fan. I’ve set up a CPU temp monitor so I can keep an eye on it. Hopefully, that was the source of my problems. I think what happened was that the trailer sat outside in very cold temperatures for three days in Amarillo and the plastic reached its brittle point. The higher inflation tires my new trailer is wearing (70 PSI v. 50 PSI) probably gave it a rougher ride, cracking the fan supports. From now on, I’ll be putting the computer case in the van’s passenger seat when travelling.

Now that you are off the edge of your seats with that harrowing story, here’s some pictures I took while hiking the area:

      • I click onto the link, Gawker, I get the page, and headlines but I can’t page down to read anything. Anyways, Forest lives in the Santa Fe area, according to everything I’ve read it could be from New Mexico to Montana. Considering he was in his 70’s and hid this alone, and it is 42 pounds, I can’t imagine it’s in too rugged a location. IDK……I just think it’s interesting. Wish I was out there, I’d be looking for it. Have you read his poem(the hints to where it is) ?
Here’s a good site, talks all about it:
